Mother's Day

So, I'm sitting here, alone.  The kids are in bed, & T had to leave, yet again.  I'm debating wether to be responsible (clean the kitchen), or be lazy (snuggle up with Napoleon, & watch a movie).  Chances are, that the movie will win.

The kids & I had a great Mother's Day.  T was here for the morning, so he let me sleep in.  I was greeted with kisses from Z & A, & an adorable hand print picture that Z made for me at school.  The kids entertained themselves (miracle of all miracles!!) while I cleaned half of the monstrous kitchen mess, & T prepped for his trip.  After lunch, we went strawberry picking with some great friends.  It was so much fun, & a perfect distraction.  The kids ran & splashed in puddles, & A ate strawberries until I thought she might pop.  It doesn't get much better than that.  We came home, had an early dinner, & watched a movie while eating WAY too much ice cream (again, even better!).

As if that wasn't enough, yesterday, I woke up to a bouquet of tulips, & T built our second garden box. He also helped me plant a tree in the front yard!  It's been a great weekend.  Considering I didn't even realize that Mother's Day was this weekend, until a friend pointed it out on Wednesday (crap, cards are going out late), this was probably the best Mother's Day I've had.

I'm thankful to have such great kids, even if they stress me out sometimes.  But, what I'm most thankful for, is a husband who works hard, so that I can stay home & be with them.  I know I complain a lot about not having time to myself, but I wouldn't trade my time with them for anything!

Don't Mess With Me...

So, last night, A was being ornery (big surprise, I know).  T & I had both told her no multiple times.  Needless to say she was less than thrilled.  Her response?  She went in the playroom, got a toy gun & a microphone, & pretended to shoot us.  Apparently, we've been watching too many superhero shows...

Ehh...

Ever have one of those days where you just can't seem to catch a break?  You know the ones where everything is going wrong, & as soon as you think, "how could this day get any worse?" it does.  Well, that's the kind of day I had.  It actually started out pretty well, but went down hill quickly.  Without getting to into it.  We didn't eat lunch until 3:00, by the time both kids were in bed asleep it was quarter till 10, & just when I thought things couldn't get worse, I knocked a fish off the counter.  Yes, a live fish was flopping on my kitchen floor.  Tears were shed.  It was a rough day.

My Sweet Boy

I just have to "mom gush" over Z for a minute.  He has got to be the sweetest little boy I've ever met, & I'm not just saying that because he's mine.  I just don't want to forget these sweet little moments with him.

Tonight when he was getting into bed (he falls asleep in our bed, & then we transfer him to his own), I was putting some clothes away in my closet.  He wasn't quite asleep when I finished, so he asked me to come snuggle.  I tried my best to squeeze into bed between him & A who was already asleep, but didn't quite fit.  So, he just hugged my head.  He brushed a stray hair out of my face, kissed my forehead, & held my hand.  After a few minutes, he told me I was squishing his legs.  Before I got up, I went to give him a kiss, & tell him I love him.  It went like this:

Me- I love you so much!
Z- I love you so much, too!
Me- You're the sweetest boy.
Z- You're the sweetest Momma.

The whole time that we were talking, he was giving me "eskimo kisses" (rubbing noses).  Then he giggled, & held my cheeks to kiss my nose.

It's moments like these that get me through the tantrums.  Every night he holds my hands while he falls asleep.  No matter how awful our day was, that makes it all worth it.  I hope he never outgrows holding my hand.

Growing Up a Bit

So...

I still haven't done any organizing of pictures.  Big surprise, I know.  They sit there in the camera mocking me.  One of these days I'll tackle them.  You should see my house, though.  It's super clean.  I've been in over drive deep cleaning room by room.  I AM SO TIRED!  I din't realize just how dirty it was.  Isn't that a great thing to admit.

I'm happy to report that not only have I cleaned the whole house, but while doing so, I've stayed on top of the dishes as well.  It's almost like I'm becoming a responsible adult or something.  I've been trying my best to be more on top of things, & a little less of a slob.  Almost two months in, & so far, so good.

T has also been on a big health kick lately.  We haven't bought a single processed food in over a month (with the exception of a small bag of Cheetos I bought today).  We've been making everything from scratch.  T has been baking bread every weekend, & I have even made homemade fruit snacks & goldfish crackers for the kids.  It's actually been pretty fun, & we've even gotten the kids to eat more veggies (which is NOT easy to do).

All of this responsibility stuff wasn't intended as a new years resolution or anything, but the timing worked out nicely.  It feels really good to have a clean house.  Now I just hope to maintain everything.  Up next on my todo list is painting my craft room, & organizing & backing up my photos.  This should be fun.

Super Slacking

It seems that life has caught up with me.  December was jam packed with Christmas activities that kept us very busy.  Followed by a trip home to St. Louis to visit family.  Since coming home, we've been deep cleaning the house, rearranging some furniture, & painting some rooms.

Two weeks ago, we were all knocked on our butts by a pretty nasty cold.  Somehow, it always works out that T is out of town or busy at work when the rest of us get sick.  He promptly had to go to DC the first day Z was home from school.  Poor guy had to leave for a week, & still got sick.  Thankfully, we don't get sick very often.

Funny enough, as I type that, Z is home sick again today.  They had a pink eye outbreak at school.  Kids were dropping like flies.  Z was one of three kids sent home yesterday; on top of the other four who were already out.  We had our third ever non-wellness doctor visit.  Of course, this whole pink eye mess would land on the day that T had to be at work all night.

On top of a pitiful little boy who needed eye drops, A had to get caught up on her shots due to the appointment we missed during our sick week.  So, today is a lazy movie day.  I'm hoping to use my time wisely, & get my pictures in order.  Maybe, just maybe, I'll actually get things updated on here.  Maybe...

I'll leave you with a glimpse oh how we spent our night.

Z looks like a kid from one of those heart wrenching sponsor a kid commercials.

So sad.  He's doing much better today, though.
